Hi
I am doing a few wks combo blog as what I have been doing over the past few weeks is exactly the same sort of stuff, this being tagging .html documents. It is very easy stuff, although it is just as easy to miss bits out or add in the wrong stuff, and doing multiple modules at the same time has been challenging, more so when working from home though, as I don't ahve all the necessary software installed. Along with this I have been creating my oewn portfolio and doen some concept art, as I feel I need some new stuff. I have also been creating some of my own audio, which is going beter than in I initially thought it would - I have suprised myself, which tbh is always a gd feeling :-)
Over the next weeks I look forward to possibly doing some Flash based work, as I'm missing doing that, and have that some more X-box work is in the pipeline.
I'll keep you updated
Take care - Rach :-)

CM-Group_Placement Week 7
Hey ppl
Nearly been at CM Group for two months....can't really believe it. Anyways this week has been a fairly quiet one, and so I've taken the time to build myself a portfolio. This will hopefully help me to advertise my work and get more potential employment post uni, which will be gd given the current economic climate they so kindly keep reminding us about. The portfolio will be Flash based, written in AS2&/AS3 as I'm learning AS2 but am pretty competent in AS3. Aside from my portfolio I have done a bit more on the skinning front, mainly tweaking completed skins, which were both my own and other colleagues. I hear next week is meant to be more productive, as we have some response from clients, new and old, asking for more work, so things are in the pipeline, just need the briefs sent through and then I can hopefully do some more e-learning developments.
Away from work, the house is back to normal now, and the mini-extension is practically complete, but I'm not sure how I'm going to live in a normal house [that's square looking - and kind of standard] - as our house has different levels and buildings leading off from other buildings, so funny to watch people find their way around when they come and visit :-) Also, my younger brother has been waiting on his results from college, so there has a been a slight feeling of apprehension, as he really wants to go to Uni, and do something IT related. I kind of feel sorry for him, as he's a practical kind of guy, so would prefer to do an apprenticeship, but there just aren't the companies out there with enough money to take on extra people. But on the upside he got the results he wants and has enough points to go to Uni so all should be good on that front. So glad I don't every have to sit another exam, who needs the stress and wants the wrinkles lol.
Anyways bye for now, talk soon

CM-Group_Placement Week 6
Hey there
I'm into week 6 already...omg how time flys by :-)
This week so far have been doing skinning mainly, which is where you make a kind of template, to which other people can then place their content into, to form a course. The content for the course can be modified or removed without having an adverse effect on the skin itself. Also, as the skin represents a template it can be re-used.
Away from work things are all good. I'm finally done with the docs and hospital, which is lush. Also, planning to meet up with a few friends this weekend, as were all in the area, and with people moving away and working away, getting the chance to see my best friends is few and fair between at times, so looking forward to that :-) Extensions still in progress, although its a little less noisy at home now, so I can back to recording music...yay :-)

CM-Group_Placement Week 5
Hi Guys
That week has been a short one as far as work related activities are concerned, I have spent more of my week in doctors surgeries and hopsitals. I had a minor car crash on my daily travel home from work, waiting at a set of traffic lights, some kind sole bummed me up the bum, he forgot he had any brakes :-) But all is good, as my car is ok and not to bad, so here I am back at work.
During this week, there has a lot more focus on audio and video editing work from my point of view, which I am thoroughly enjoying, as it is something I am readily familiar with. Alongside this I have done some audio recording, which has allowed me to get used to their audio software and use the Soundbooth. I love all things sound/music related so it a positive learning curve for me.
I have some more skinning due to be done as soon as I have completed the audio/video editing, hopefully I'll be quicker than last time, as I now have some idea as to what I am doing :-)
Anyway...my video has finshed rendering...so it's back to work for me
Adios Amigo :-)

CM-Group_Placement Week 4
Hi there,
I'm now approaching the end of week 4, and it seems to have flown bye, which must mean only one thing! I'm having fun :-)
This week I have been lucky enough to work alongside a group of people on Flash based work, all of which is coded in AS2 [ActionScript 2.0], which is new to me, as I have only done AS3 before hand.I have also been synchronising audio into the IMI, so that the avatars voice is in sync with the graphics and animation displayed on the screen/stage.
Aside from Flash the British Gas skinning is all complete and has been handed-off, which is a good feeling, although I wouldn't have achieved half as much without the help and guidance of my mentor. So thanks Keith :-) I feel that this week I have really started to become part of the workforce, taking part in the development of E-learning, some of which is stand-alone work and other parts I need a great deal of guidance on. However, the whole point of the placement is to go on a learning curve.
I'm looking forward to doing more of the same next week, as we have some more Flash based work in the pipeline.
Aside for work, all is good at the moment - looking forward to the weekend as I'm off down to Penarth and Barry to see family and friends, as well as go to the beach - I would never miss the opportunity to go the beach, sun, sea and sand, and the hope of a better tan :-)
I'll give an update on placement progress again next week
Bye for now

CM-Group_Placement Week 3
Hello
Week 3 has been fairly busy at times, the amount of work fluctuates from day to day, dependant on the deadline given by the client. I have completed my skinning for British Gas and finally estabilshed how to publish content out of Luminosity [CM's in-house software i mentioned before]. However, in doing this I have learnt that although my work can look good and be fully functionally on my desktop or off a hard-drive, once implemented into another piece of software, no end of problems can occur, as well as some crucial files not transferring.
I have also done a small amount of Flash work, starting to get to grips with how they create content for their clients. One major difference with doing Flash in commercial companies is that they tend to do all their ActionScript coding in AS2, whereas, as at Uni we have purely been taught AS3. So at the moment, I'm getting to grips with AS2, so can help out more on future flash based projects.
Aside from work, life has been fairly relaxed. I'm starting to get used to the long commute, with it now feeling normal to drive 100 miles each day, although initially i found it exhausting. Whilst I've been at work, my family seem to have started re-furnishing parts of house, each day I go home something looks different :-). Anyway weekend soon, hope we get some sunshine, it seems to like to rain here!!

CM - Group_Placement Week 2
Hi
I am now coming towards the end of my 2nd week on placement and it has been a very good one. I have developed a British Gas skin for a course, which is similar to creating a template for a website. As well a creating the skin, I have had the opportunity to talk and pitch my ideas to the British Gas client himself when he came to take a look at my initial skin design on Wednesday. Although, I found the wait daunting, when it came to it I found confidence I never knew I had and both myself and the client went away satisfied with the outcome. I cannot however take all the credit for it, as I have a mentor helping me, so I can transfer what I have learnt at Uni and place it into their way of thinking and developing courses for their clients.
I feel I am settling in better now, as I am not quite so mentally drained, as I was when the end of week 1 approached. I guess that was due to nerves, an unfamiliar environment and a lot of commuting, which to be honest I wasn't used to with the close proximity of the University in relation to where I live.
Currently, I am using Flash to develop my virtual hospital, a project I did for Uni, which I am continuing with, whilst waiting for the storyboard to arrive, ready for the XBox work in Flash. Anyway, I best crack on!! I will be back to write more about my time on placement soon.
